The memorial is on a small grassed area adjacent to the B4196 road, where a side road goes off to the Parish Church and to the Church of England School. There are apparently war memorial boards or plaques in both these buildings; the one at the school listing former scholars who died in the First World War (the Great War) of 1914-1918. This War Memorial cross was dedicated on the 9th April 1921 by the then Bishop of Worcester, Ernest Pearce. The plaque on this side reads:- "To the Glory of God and in grateful remembrance of the men of Astley who laid down their lives for us in the Great War". Their names are recorded on plaques on two of the other sides of the memorial's base. Later a plaque was added on the remaining side recording five men who died in the Second World War (1939-1945).
