The drinking fountain was erected in 1897. However, over the years it had become a little weathered and so the local council decided to spend £2000 on steam-cleaning the stonework. The base was repaired, the lions' heads replaced and electrical work extended to adding a solar power unit to the top of the cast-iron urn. Local dignitaries unveiled the fountain over Jubilee weekend of 2012. The town crest was also repainted - see Image
