Coulsdon: Leaden Hill and Station Approach Road

This photograph was taken looking across what used to be the main A23 through Coulsdon (but this has now been bypassed). On the left is the approach road to Coulsdon Town station, (used to be called Smitham). This road has recently been given the name Leaden Hill, (nobody seems to know why!). The right hand road is called Station Approach Road - but it does not approach a station, nor has it done so since Coulsdon North station was closed almost 30 years ago and soon demolished. Confused? You should be... The area between these two roads was formerly occupied by a motorcar show room, but this has just been demolished. What will replace the showroom,who knows? Perhaps a psychiatric unit for local councillors?
