Pryor?s Bank in Bishop's Park

The original Pryor’s Bank was a Gothic house built in 1837. The estate was purchased in 1894 and its grounds incorporated into Bishop’s Park. The garden of “grottoes, fountains and arbours” was quickly re-landscaped to create a prim neatness “in no way in keeping with the ancient building”. In 1900 the house itself was replaced by the present pavilion to create a café and reading room supplied with newspapers and magazines. This view is from the riverbank. Behind is the tower of All Saints' Church which dates from the 14th to the early 15th centuries, but was heavily restored in the 19th century.
