This 17th century lectern-style doocot, associated with nearby Preston Tower, has 985 nestboxes and judging by the sounds emanating from within it is still in use by doos. It has deteriorated quite a bit since Image] was taken only seven years ago and looks as if it could to with some tender loving care. However in times of austerity, I can just hear the outcry if the council were to spend money repairing desirable residences for Columba livia, sometimes referred to as 'rats on wings', and neglected the dwellings of Homo sapiens.
