St Mary's Chapel dates from around 1581 when it was built as a chapel of ease to High Legh East Hall. The church was restored in 1836 and 1858 but the hall was demolished in 1963. The chapel is designated by English Heritage as a Grade II* listed building (http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1139516 National Heritage List for England).
