The cottage is in near original condition complete with bay window to enable the lock keeper to keep a lookout for traffic on the nearby Grand Union Canal. The towpath forms part of the Grand Union Canal Walk and is designated as a 'National Trail/Long Distance Route; Recreational route'. Its status is unclear at this point but, further south, it becomes a bridleway.
