Colwick Crossing is one of several level crossings on the former Midland Railway line east from Nottingham. Colwick Road, which crosses the railway here, is no longer a main road as such, this area having been bypassed to the south by Daleside Road. Therefore, the procession of passenger trains to and from Lincoln, Skegness, and Norwich, together with freight trains to and from south Humberside, causes relatively little traffic congestion here.
