To my astonishment the pub did not appear under its own name as a listed building although a sign on the end of the building states 'circa 1390'. However further research reveals a Grade II listing under the heading "Badger Cottage The Dog and Badger, Medmenham" with English Heritage Building ID: 47009. This listing is more conservative, asserting that the pub is probably 17th C. This later time scale could still accommodate its legends surrounding Nell Gwyn and also the even more notorious Sir Francis Dashwood.
