This is similar in style to the milestone further down the road, which is one of hundreds erected by the newly formed West Riding County Council at the end of the 19C. The 1850 six-inch map shows a milestone further up the road, giving distances from Bradford (4 miles) and Huddersfield (7 miles). Also Wyke was spelt 'Wike' on the 1850 map. The Huddersfield and Wibsey Low Moor turnpike road was built 1823-4.
