66040 brings the 6V06 Crawley Foster Yeoman - Acton Yard service through Willesden South West Sidings / Old Oak Sidings towards Old Oak Junction. As recently as the 1980's the sidings were full of wagons and required a shunter on duty to move them around - see Image Now they have been rationalised and it is rare to see any wagons standing in the few sidings that remain. This is a result of the move from wagonload traffic to trainload bulk operations where rail is able to compete effectively with road. Behind is the Powerday recycling complex which, among other things, produces hardcore for the construction industry from recycled materials.
