Galway House, part of the Playdell Estate in Islington, looms over St Luke's Primary School, Bath Street (the B144). The school is built on the site of the first "hospital" for C16th French Protestants - Huguenots - fleeing from religious persecution. The almshouse was a three-storey Georgian style building surrounded by the orchards and vegetable gardens. Lack of capacity lead the Foundation to move its premises to Victoria Park, Hackney in 1862 and finally to Theobald Square, Rochester, Kent in 1965, where it still provides sheltered accommodation for residents with 'appropriate' backgrounds.
