On Chalgrove High Street. John Hampden, one of the major players on the Parliamentarian side in the English Civil War, was killed at the battle of Chalgrove near here. His name is remembered in the village hall, here, in a strongly Parliamentarian area. Shakespeare's Way passes the door. He died 30 years before; I wonder what he would have made of the conflict had he still been around?
