Not greatly used, even as long ago as the 1960s. Note the truck weighbridge ramp (now probably disused), which I believe was also the local public weighbridge back then. This gate was mainly used as an entrance for millworkers, as there was space on the approach road (behind the camera) from Brendon Road to park quite a few cars. There is a narrow paved footpath/lane (with some local vehicle access to a couple of houses) on the left. At the end of this path (at the top of the hill) is St. Decuman's Church. That lane intersects/crosses this approach road just behind the camera position, with a paved footpath then passing down through Church Fields (formerly part of a dairy farm with some very photogenic Channel Island cows) to the town centre - passing under the mill's main approach road by means of a long and echoey pedestrian tunnel.
