The houses of Caterham in Surrey go right up to the line here, but further development is stopped by the City of London's Coulsdon Common just over the border in the Borough of Croydon. Thanks here to Robin Webster for his shot Image identifying the white bollard as a Coal Tax Post. I had no idea what it was when I took this, just a boundary marker for the City Common I thought, but actually it's to do with taxing people for bringing coal into London. Coal? Cars? No change there then. For all those just as ignorant as me about coal taxes, here's what wiki. has to say about it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coal-tax_post
