Ten days ago the worst snow blizzards in 60 years hit Dumfries and Galloway with a vengeance. All major roads were shut and several thousand homes were cut off and without electricity. The toll was particularly heavy for the farmers of the Machars who lost cattle and sheep, especially young lambs. I had to wade through snow six feet deep, which had drifted to the side of the road and had been piled up by snow ploughs, to get this shot. The view here is from Kirkinner past North Balfern Farm to the right of picture with the snow topped Galloway Hills visible on the horizon. On a more happy note a local farmer from Mochrum made the news with the rescue of one of his sheep after being lost for 11 days under the snow.
