This impressive viaduct used to carry a railway chord linking what are known as the Pontefract Line and the Dearne Valley Line. Pontefract's three railway stations were thus directly linked. The stations are all open but the chord closed in November 1964, although fortunately the viaduct remains. Photographed from the junction of the A645 road and Cobbler's Lane.
