One of the oldest castles in Scotland, beginning in the early 12thC as a two-storey hall house; it was enlarged to a tower house in the 15thC, and there were more additions in the late 16thC, and the east range was the last main addition, by the 8th Earl of Morton in the 17thC. Now looked after by Historic Scotland.
