Looking down towards Lanfine

Hidden in the trees is Lanfine House, built at the end of the 18th century for John Brown, a successful textile manufacturer and banker. He was also a bailie in the city of Glasgow. Lanfine House in 1829 passed to a cousin, Thomas Brown, who became Professor of Botany at Glasgow University. He planted many exotic trees and plants on his estate here, which are now mature specimens.
