Gates erected in commemoration of the visit of four Prime Ministers to Northiam on 12th May 1944. Winston Churchill (Great Britain), Mackenzie King (Canada), Jan Christian Smuts (South Africa) and Godfrey Huggins (Southern Rhodesia) came to inspect the troops of Southern Command and to boost morale before the massive military manoeuvres of D-Day.
