The Webb Estate was built by William Webb from 1898. Webb was a local estate agent and spent his lifetime developing his Garden Estate idea. In 1903 a model village, Upper Woodcote Village, was laid out in the south-western corner of the Webb Estate. This is the entrance from Woodcote Village Green to Woodcote Lane - one of the more exclusive roads on this very exclusive estate. See http://www.croydon.gov.uk/leisure/parksandopenspaces/parksatoz/woodcotevillage/wvghistory for more information.
