To the south of Purley is a succession of valleys with steep sides. One of these valleys is followed by the main Brighton Road and railway line. Grovelands Road climbs up the western side of the valley, not far from Reedham station. This is looking down Grovelands Road towards Purley in the valley, with the houses of Riddlesdown on the far side. On the right is St Swithun's Church hall.
