The house in the centre is described as "of greatest historical importance. Built for artist J W Forster ... 1889-91 by C F A Voysey" http://list.english-heritage.org.uk/resultsingle.aspx?uid=1294239&searchtype=mapsearch . "This is one of Voysey's first houses, designed evidently in conscious opposition to the red brick cosiness of the surroundings".
