Details are hazy but Leamington's Old Town had just been awarded a grant of £100,000 by a government scheme fronted by Mary Portas, to regenerate town centres. Local traders threw a party in Clemens Street, featuring a rather good local band in a marquee on the canal bridge. Clemens Street and parallel Tachbrook Street were the first new streets to be laid out in the newly fashionable spa that was little more than a village. Clemens Street was laid out in 1808 and completed by 1818. In the distance is the railway bridge with High Street and the parish church beyond.
