Heading north from Merthyr Vale

A train heads towards Merthyr Tydfil along the Taff Vale main line. Once this route, in common with most railways across South Wales, would have been busy with coal trains but nowadays there is only a passenger service. Most of the line north of Abercynon is single track except for this short stretch which allows a 30-minute frequency.
