The inscription reads: To the memory of / John Roberts, / late Station Master L.& N.W.Ry., / New Street, Birmingham, / who died January 3rd. 1884, / aged 38 years. / This monument was erected by voluntary contributions by his numerous friends, as a tribute of their regard and esteem.
