The old court referred to may have been constructed in the 13th or 14th century. It was a moated manor house possibly held by the Bishops of Llandaff, who had long held lands in and around the village. The site was excavated at least in part in the 1960's and evidence of occupation and structures from the 16th century were discovered, with possible evidence of earlier occupation and structures.
