The current building dates from 1905 though the interior contains some of the 18th century manor which itself was built on top of its medieval precursor parts of which are still preserved in the basement. The manor itself was bequeathed to Brighton Corporation in 1932 and opened as a museum the following year which it remains today. To the right is St Peter's church which dates back to around 1250.
