The kiosk contains an observation borehole (OBH) belonging to the Environment Agency who are responsible for monitoring underground water levels in the Chalk aquifer. Levels are especially high this year (2013) and this ditch which seldom has anything in it is currently the headwaters of the River Lambourn.
