Brighton's good yard was built in the 1840s to the east of the station and thirty feet below it. Originally it was entered via a tunnel from the west coast line, however, this spur from the mainline was built in the 1850s and served the yard until its final closure in the 1970s though it was briefly reused for passenger services when the tracks outside the station were completely relaid in the early 1980s. Part of the line is now Image a public footpath that utilises the old railway bridge over New England Road and provides a link to the new housing built on the site of the former yard.
