Opened in 1878 by the Great Eastern Railway on the line from Chelmsford to Colchester. For its first 18 months or so, it was known as "Hatfield Peveril". View south west towards Chelmsford and London Liverpool Street. There had previously been a station on this site called "Hatfield", opened in 1844 but which had burned down at the start of 1849 and apparently not been rebuilt.
