The 55yard long outdoor pool opened in 1939. Strong local opposition to its demolition in 2008-9 prevented its loss to housing. It has now been refurbished and converted to the Olympic size of 50m. The appearance of the former entrance and changing rooms is a little sad but I suppose it is necessary for security.
