The stepped base of the sandstone cross on Mill Lane dates from the Middle Ages; it was restored during the first half of the nineteenth century. It is a Grade II listed structure (http://www.britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/en-436401-cross-rainhill- British Listed Buildings).
