The trees on the left line a former railway embankment; an abutment of the bridge that once carried the railway across Pipers Lane can just be picked out in the shade on the right. The railway was a freight branch from Stockingford, on the former Midland Railway line from Nuneaton to Birmingham, to Green's Wharf and Ansley Hall Colliery.
