A view along Hucknall Road from the recreational ground end of Tilford Road. The red brick buildings were the former Saint Mary the Virgin (Anglican) Church and its Church Hall. The Church was opened in 1928 to provide for the spiritual needs of the miners and their families who by-and-large transferred into Newstead from the North of England, whereas the miners who worked at the Annesley Colliery were more commonly from Leicestershire. The buildings are currently being used by an electrical motor repair enterprise.
