Dated 1635, "making it one of the first houses of its kind in England and thus of national importance". It was built for Benjamin Rudyerd, a lawyer, politician and poet, an unfamiliar combination from a C21st perspective. Symmetry, recessed centre, quoins, hipped roof and dormers are all ingredients which would be much repeated. Grade I listed. The date of the photo is uncertain.
