This popular spot is ideal for watching salmon jump as they make their way up the River Teviot to spawn. The 'cauld' is a reminder of Hawick's industrial past. It is designed to force water into an artificial channel (lade) which starts below this point and exits almost a kilometre down river. The water was used to power the textile mills that were built in the late 18th and early 19th century.
