Dukes Drive ... or, I suppose, more correctly Duke's Drive ... was originally a Private Road owned by the Duke of Devonshire leading from Curbar to Upper Curbar. However, it allegedly lost this status after a funeral was diverted down the road during a particularly harsh snowy Winter ... and once a body has been carried along a road it can no longer be classified as Private. True ... or a good story ... whatever, Dukes Drive is no longer a Private Road and is known locally as 'The Coach Road' and leads to Froggatt and beyond to Sheffield. The Village Hut is visible on the left. See also ... Image Image
