Set in a gap in a north facing chalk escarpment. The Inn has an interesting history (http://www.dorsetlife.co.uk/2006/06/chedington/ ).King Charles I led his troops through the Gap in 1644. Ironically, if the Monarch's Way (which passes by here) has any basis of truth, then his son Charles II also passed here during his flight from England in 1651.
