Viewed from the attic of the former Bell public house. Looking southwards along the A1 Great North Road at the notorious 'Southoe Bends'. This is a local accident black spot, indeed in the foreground a fence can be seen that was damaged by a vehicle leaving the road. The original course of the road was to the west of its current position as it used to run directly past the entrance of the pub, roughly inline with the hedgerow in the photo. Update: During the Spring of 2014, average speed cameras were installed along this section of road, with a new lower speed limit of 60mph. Since then, there has been a dramatic fall in the number of crashes.
