Walkers making their way from the wooded Stoney Clouds Nature Reserve, way below the Cloudside hilltop open space, who are intent on making their way towards Stanton-by-Dale need to use this agricultural access tunnel beneath the M1 to reach the 'permissive' footpath that crosses the Erewash Valley Golf Course. This can be glimpsed at the other end of the tunnel. The motorway acts as a boundary between Ilkeston DE7 and Nottingham NG10, albeit Sandiacre is in Derbyshire.
