The churchyard at St Michael's is the oldest town graveyard in Dumfries. After his death in 1796, Robert Burns was buried in the north east corner of the churchyard; in 1817 his body was exhumed and reinterred in the white mausoleum which can be seen at the end of this path (http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/dumfries/burnsmausoleum/index.html Undiscovered Scotland).
