Bridge carries towpath over the entrance to one of the marinas on the eastern approach to Newbury. New houses beyond lock are named John Gould Court after John Gould who operated working boats on the River Kennet in the Newbury area in the 1940's and 1950's and was one of the main instigators in the restoration of the Kennet and Avon Canal.
