The impression of removed letters shows the name of the former occupier of 23 Commercial Street. Next door is Davis & Sons, Estate Agents. The name board shows ESTABLISHED 1747. One wonders what type of business they did in those early years. Perhaps the emphasis was on *estate* agents. The biggest landed estates for centuries in this area belonged to the Hanbury family, who were industrial pioneers.
