The park was presented to the former Borough of Kidderminster by John Brinton in 1887. The land was originally Sutton Common. John Brinton was a member of the well-known local family of carpet manufacturers, a firm which is still in business today. These gates are at the main entrance to the park, at the end of an access road off Sutton Road.
