The first Village School was in the Barrow district and opened in 1716, but was replaced by the (as shown) present building in 1835 ... but only for Girls and Infants, as, in those days, it was considered unwise to teach Girls and Boys together. The Boys remained at Barrow until 1943 when another re-think meant that the older Boys and Girls should be taught in Senior Schools thereby releasing space for the Village Junior and Infant Boys and Girls to share premises and be taught in mixed classes.
