Dating in part from the eighteenth century, the pub is built of local stone which probably came from what is now the garden, landscaped out of an old quarry. Formerly the centre of village life, home to the first school and first postbox, and HQ of the Headington Quarry morris dancers. For much of the 19thC it was run by the suitably named Goodgame family. The pub fell on hard times and closed in 2007, but has been reopened.
