Drystone wall and Slemish

The area around Ballymena has lots of drystone walls. This one, seen from the Loughloughan Rd, points directly to Slemish where reputedly Patrick spent his boyhood as a slave tending sheep on its slopes before going on to be St Patrick and Ireland's Patron Saint. Slemish is the eroded basalt plug of an ancient volcano which was active some 60,000,000 years ago during a period of geological upheaval which created the Antrim Plateau and the Giant's Causeway.
