St John the Evangelist Anglican Church at the side of Nottingham Road (the A609) as the road descends towards the River Erewash and the flat area through which the Nottingham Canal also travels. It is a brick structure in the Early English style attributed to Henry Currey 1820-1900 who designed St Thomas' Hospital, a London hospital opened in 1871. St John's was built as a daughter church to St Mary's in Market Place. It was completed in 1911 and it became the parish church of the newly formed parish of St John's in 1912.
