These stone built cottages are in the centre of the village on the main road between the church and the manor house. This is Rose Cottage where nine members of the Thorpe family died from the plague during 1665 and 1666. next door to Rose Cottage is Plague cottage (with the black door) where Mary hadfield lived. Although she survived she lost 19 relatives to the plague.
